• ANSI and CAN means the standard has been accepted by ANSI (United
states) and CAN (Canada) as bi-national safety standard;

Background 背景介绍
◼ Other available standard and regulations (16 CFR 1512, etc.) already
exists to evaluate the mechanical requirements of bike/EPAC, however it
has no good approach to solve lithium battery issue
◼ Outline version (of UL2849) was issued even before the publishing of
Issue # 1 of UL2272 (safety standard for e-mobility device), and the
primary aid is to solve the battery fire/explosion issues.
◼ The standard was initiated / organized by Underwriters Laboratories and
finally approved by UL Standards Technical Panel (STP)*
◼ During the standard development phase, the team has been focused on
battery safety due to the nature of battery issues in the market.
*Remark: UL STP members including persons from different interest categories
(TIC companies, Producer, supply chain, Government, etc.)

• eBIKE - A two or three wheeled electrical/mechanical device
provided with functional pedals that includes one or more electric
motors to either assist the rider when pedaling (EPAC versions) or
provide motive power to the wheels when the rider is not pedaling.
◼ Scooters and similar personal e-mobility devices covered by UL2272;
◼ Limitations of UL2849
